Bridgestone vs Michelin: how the two compare in India
Bridgestone and Michelin side by side for Indian car owners: where the tyres are made, the ranges, the warranty terms, and which to choose when.
Bridgestone vs Michelin is a comparison between two premium tyre makers that now both build car tyres in India, but from different starting points. Bridgestone has made passenger car tyres here for years, at plants in Chakan near Pune and in Indore, and its Indian range runs from city hatchbacks to luxury SUVs. Michelin’s plant near Chennai made only truck and bus tyres until 2025; its first India-made car tyre, the Primacy 5, went on sale in August 2026, and its focus is on sedans and SUVs with 16-inch and larger wheels. Bridgestone gives more choice in small sizes; Michelin’s warranty runs longer from the date you buy. Neither is the better brand for every car, so this guide ends with which to choose when.

Where the tyres are made
Bridgestone India’s plants are in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. When it launched the Turanza 6i in 2024, the company said the range was made locally at Indore and Chakan, and that it had doubled its daily production capacity to 30,000 tyres.
Michelin signed an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government in 2009 for a plant at the SIPCOT Thervoy Kandigai industrial park, about 50 km north of Chennai, and began commercial production of truck tyres there in early 2014. In September 2025 it rolled out its first made-in-India passenger car tyres from the same site, following an investment of nearly ₹686 crore in the plant. The Primacy 5 followed in August 2026, and Michelin has said the Pilot Sport 5 and LTX Trail will also be made in Chennai. Until then, the Michelin car tyres sold in India came from its plants abroad.
The ranges, family by family
Both brands group their car tyres into families. Here is how they line up for Indian buyers; the Bridgestone and Michelin brand guides describe each range.
| What you want | Bridgestone India | Michelin India |
|---|---|---|
| City driving and fuel economy | B and S series, Ecopia | Energy |
| Long tread life | Sturdo | Primacy, designed to perform to the legal wear limit |
| Comfort and quiet | Turanza, including the Turanza 6i | Primacy, including the Primacy 5 |
| Sporty handling | Potenza, MY02 | Pilot Sport, including the Pilot Sport 5 |
| SUVs | Dueler, and Alenza for premium SUVs | LTX |
| Electric cars | Turanza 6i, described as EV-ready | Pilot Sport EV and e·Primacy; Primacy 5 designed for EVs too |
Sizes are where they differ most. The Turanza 6i comes in 36 sizes from 14 to 20 inches, covering premium hatchbacks through to SUVs. Michelin’s India-made Primacy 5 runs from 16 to 22 inches, aimed at sedans and SUVs. If your car runs on 13, 14 or 15-inch wheels, check first whether a Michelin is offered in your size at all. Our tyre size pages list the brands we track for each size, and the Bridgestone price list and Michelin price list give indicative bands size by size.
What each brand claims
Both makers publish performance claims for their new ranges, and both are the makers’ own figures.
Bridgestone says the Turanza 6i was developed for long life, fuel efficiency and comfort, using its Enliten technology, a high silica content in the compound and a sidewall designed to absorb road shocks.
Michelin commissioned braking tests of the Primacy 5 in India, run by Applus+ IDIADA at the NATRAX track in Indore in May and June 2026 on a Hyundai Creta. It reports a wet stop from 80 to 20 km/h in 30.5 m against a 38.6 m average for competing tyres, which included the Turanza 6i. It also claims 8% longer life than the Primacy 4ST it replaces.
Tests chosen and paid for by one maker are useful, but they are not an independent comparison. Treat them as a sign of what each tyre was designed to do.
Warranty compared
Bridgestone covers passenger car tyres against manufacturing defects for five years from manufacture, three years from purchase, or until the tread wears to the 1.6 mm indicators, whichever comes first. Settlement is pro-rata on the tread left above 1.6 mm. Bridgestone India also publishes a separate unconditional warranty policy.
Michelin covers tyres bought from 1 June 2020 for five years from the date of purchase, or until the tread reaches the legal minimum, whichever comes first. You need a digital warranty registration or proof of purchase, and road hazard damage such as cuts, impacts and punctures is excluded.
The practical difference is the start date. A Bridgestone tyre that sat in stock for a year has less cover left than a Michelin bought on the same day, and our tyre age check reads the date code for you. Our tyre warranty guide compares other brands too.
Which to choose when
Choose Bridgestone if your car runs on 14 or 15-inch wheels and you want a premium tyre, since its range reaches further down the size chart; if you want a dedicated long-life pattern (Sturdo) for high-mileage city and highway use; or if a Bridgestone dealer is easier to reach where you live.
Choose Michelin if your sedan or SUV runs on 16-inch or larger wheels and you want a tyre built to keep performing down to its wear limit, which is Michelin’s stated aim for the Primacy family; if you buy tyres from stock whose date code may not be recent, because Michelin’s warranty counts from purchase; or if you want an EV-specific tyre such as the e·Primacy in your size.
For performance cars, compare Potenza with Pilot Sport size by size; both are aimed at the same drivers.
For electric cars, both offer tyres designed with EV weight and torque in mind. Our EV tyres guide explains what to look for.
Whichever you choose, the right size, load index and speed rating matter more than the logo. Our guide to the best tyres for your car walks through choosing by how you drive, our MRF vs CEAT comparison sets the two biggest Indian makers side by side, and our brand guides cover other makers sold in India.
